Tip Calculator

Calculate the tip and total bill, and split the total evenly among any number of people.

Bill details

How the split is calculated

Tip amount = bill × tip percentage. The total (bill + tip) is then divided evenly across the number of people entered, so each person's share includes both their portion of the food/service cost and their portion of the tip.

Frequently asked questions

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount? Tipping customs vary, but many guides suggest tipping on the pre-tax subtotal. This calculator uses whatever "bill amount" you enter, so enter the pre-tax subtotal if that's your preference.

What's a standard tip percentage? In the U.S., 15–20% is common for full-service dining, with 18–20% typical for good service; other countries and service types (delivery, bars, salons) have different norms.

What if people had very different orders? An even split works well for similar orders, but for very uneven bills, splitting by what each person actually ordered (rather than dividing the total equally) is often considered fairer.
