Ingredients for California Roll Sushi Bowls

  • 1 cup of sushi rice
  • 1 1/4 cups of water
  • 1/4 cup of rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 4 ounces of crab meat
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 cucumber
  • 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of Sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Rice

Begin by cooking one cup of sushi rice according to package instructions. Once the rice is cooked and still warm, combine 1/4 cup of rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of salt in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat until the sugar has dissolved. Add the vinegar mixture to the rice and stir to combine.

Step 2: Prepare the Crab Meat

If you’re using fresh crab meat that still has its shell, begin by steaming the crab for about 5 minutes. Once it’s cooked, remove the meat from the shell and chop it into small pieces. If you’re using pre-cooked crab meat, simply chop it into small pieces.

Step 3: Prepare the Vegetables

Cut the avocado into small chunks, and peel and slice the cucumber. Set aside.

Step 4: Make the Spicy Mayo

In a small bowl, whisk together 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of Sriracha, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Set aside.

Step 5: Assemble the Bowls

Divide the cooked rice between four bowls. Top each bowl with the chopped crab meat, sliced avocado, and sliced cucumber. Drizzle the spicy mayo over each bowl, and serve immediately.

These California Roll Sushi Bowls are just perfect for a weekend lunch or dinner. They’re easy to make, and they’re a great way to get all the flavors of your favorite sushi roll without any of the fuss. Plus, they look just as beautiful in a bowl as they do on a plate. So go ahead and make yourself a bowl today!
