Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed, until smooth and well combined.
  4. Stir in boiling water and chopped pecans.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
